The Archive for Geography owns a collection of around 140,000 picture postcards from all parts of the world, with Leipzig and Saxony as their geographical point of emphasis. The oldest exhibits date back to the mid-1890s. The picture postcards photographed from the various fronts in the First World War serve as a source of history material of a special kind. Aside from the geographical motifs there are smaller groups of ethnographic material, militaria, and pictures of rulers, among other items.
