Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1199: Processes of spatialisation under the global condition

In January 2016 a new collaborative research center “Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition” (SFB 1199) has started. In this project researchers from diverse disciplines work together: geographers, historians and cultural scientists, africanists and americanists, orientalists and sinologists, as well as anthropologists and political scientists. IfL and the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) are partners of the Leipzig University in this SFB. IfL participates with several research projects:

2nd funding period: 2020–2023

  • Innovative technology enterprises at unusual locations in Central Asia and Africa (project A2)

  • Spatial semantics of geography in the 19th and 20th centuries (project C1)

  • Maps and atlases as mediators and producers of space (knowledge) under the global condition (project C5)

1st funding period: 2016–2019

  • Peripheral but global: World market leaders outside of agglomerations (project A2)
